Sklar Kirsh, LLP is seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, and knowledgeable person for new position within our Litigation Department.

This position would handle centralized calendaring and provide overflow legal assistant support.   This person will also handle TOC/TOA creation and distribution of documents to the attorneys and staff and saving of those documents to NetDocuments, our document management system.  Strong word processing and computer skills are mandatory, familiarity with CCC Macros is preferred.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Highly familiar with local, State Court, Federal Court and Appellate Court Rules (experience with bankruptcy and unlawful detainer rules preferred), in order to calendar dates using Outlook & Docketing program (JuraLaw)
  • Upload and save documents to document management system (NetDocs), distribute to other team members accordingly, and automatically calendar all triggered deadlines
  • Handle word processing and formatting of documents using the firm’s macros, specific knowledge of TOC and TOA required
  • Familiar with handling all aspects of court filings (both electronic and hard copy, if applicable)
  • Create shells for all discovery and pleading documents (i.e. interrogatories, motions)
  • Gather, assemble, paginate, and bookmark exhibits for filing with court using Adobe PDF Pro
  • Organize and maintain deposition exhibits, including creating a log/Excel sheet linking them
  • Create and maintain master case captions and master service lists using the firm macros
  • Complete Judicial Council forms for attorney review
  • Reserve court dates using the various court reservation systems
  • Schedule remote court appearances through LACourtConnect, CourtCall, and other remote video systems
  • Obtain most current status of court proceedings and restrictions mandated by COVID response
  • Redline documents
  • Fax/photocopy/scan documents as requested

Candidate Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional legal experience
  • Great team player and colleague
  • High level of proficiency and comfort with technology and software
  • Strong ability to multitask
  • Strong ability to work well under pressure and available for occasional overtime
  • Strong ability to handle filings (both hard copy and electronic) in their sleep, without the benefit of assistance from a litigation paralegal
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a large number of requests
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including advanced skills in Microsoft Word (styles, track changes, TOC/TOA, high-level formatting), Outlook (strong calendaring skills), Adobe Pro (comfort with editing PDFs, bates labeling, page manipulation, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint a plus
  • Macros skills preferred (we use CCC Macros)
  • Familiarity with document management systems; NetDocuments experience a plus
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to shift gears quickly when given an urgent task
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Excellent phone etiquette skills
